Program Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Theology (Divinity) is an advanced religious education program designed for individuals seeking doctoral-level study of Christian theology, biblical doctrine, theological interpretation, and the relationship between Scripture, the Church, culture, and Christian ministry. The program challenges students to move beyond foundational theological knowledge toward advanced analysis, synthesis, scholarly inquiry, and the construction of well-supported theological positions. Students engage the doctrine of the Trinity, the dispensations of Law and Grace, theological design for transformative ministry, principles of biblical interpretation, Christ and culture, practical methods of Bible lesson preparation, and leadership and reconciliation. Through these areas of study, students critically examine major theological concepts, interpretive frameworks, the application of doctrine within Christian ministry, and the ways theological understanding informs leadership, culture, teaching, and contemporary Christian thought. The program emphasizes doctoral-level theological reasoning, advanced biblical interpretation, critical analysis, scholarly engagement, doctrinal understanding, and the responsible integration of Scripture with Christian ministry and contemporary issues. The program culminates in doctoral research and a dissertation, through which students demonstrate their ability to conduct substantive theological inquiry, engage biblical and scholarly sources, construct defensible theological arguments, and contribute meaningfully to Christian theological scholarship and ministry practice.
