Program Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Practical Ministry is an advanced religious education program designed for individuals seeking doctoral-level study of Christian ministry practice, theological application, biblical interpretation, leadership, and transformative ministry. The program brings theological scholarship into direct conversation with the practical responsibilities of Christian ministry, challenging students to examine how biblical and theological principles inform ministry design, teaching, leadership, discipleship, and service. Students engage theological design for transformative ministry, church doctrine and God’s purpose, practical methods of Bible lesson preparation, principles of biblical interpretation, leadership and reconciliation, Christ and culture, and the relationship between purpose, vision, and effective Christian service. Through these areas of study, students critically examine how theological understanding is translated into meaningful ministry practice within churches, ministries, faith-based organizations, and communities. The program emphasizes doctoral-level theological reflection, practical ministry analysis, biblical interpretation, leadership judgment, ministry innovation, scholarly inquiry, and the ability to develop biblically grounded responses to contemporary ministry challenges. The program culminates in doctoral research and a dissertation, through which students demonstrate their ability to investigate a significant ministry issue, integrate biblical and academic scholarship, develop defensible ministry applications, and contribute meaningfully to Christian ministry scholarship and practice.
