Program Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Theology and Christian Ministry is an advanced religious education program designed for individuals seeking doctoral-level study of Christian theology as it is interpreted, applied, and expressed within contemporary ministry practice. The program integrates advanced theological reflection, biblical interpretation, Christian leadership, ministry development, and cultural engagement, preparing students to move beyond the study of theological concepts toward their thoughtful application within real-world Christian ministry contexts. Students engage theological design for transformative ministry, principles of biblical interpretation, Christ and culture, the dispensations of Law and Grace, leadership and reconciliation, practical methods of Bible lesson preparation, and the relationship between purpose, vision, and effective Christian service. Through these areas of study, students critically examine how Scripture and theology inform ministry leadership, teaching, reconciliation, cultural engagement, spiritual formation, and the development of transformative ministry practices. The program emphasizes doctoral-level theological analysis, applied biblical scholarship, ministry innovation, leadership judgment, cultural engagement, scholarly inquiry, and the responsible translation of theological understanding into Christian ministry practice. The program culminates in doctoral research and a dissertation, through which students demonstrate their ability to investigate a significant theological or ministry issue, synthesize biblical and academic scholarship, develop defensible applications, and contribute meaningfully to the scholarship and practice of applied theology and Christian ministry.
